I had one painting class in high school and adored it! I had a wonderful teacher, but she was very strict on what she thought suitable as subject matter. I had to plead my case many times to get her to agree to this piece as my final painting for the class. It was the cover of a book I was reading at the time, “Creek Mary’s Blood” by Dee Alexander Brown. I loved how the artist created the title character’s memories as a sort of floating headband.

As a 15 year old fledgling artist, there was no way I could duplicate that wonderful painting, but I took different parts and worked hard at my version of them! The finished painting was the first I ever thought “framable”, and eventually it made it’s way into my first art show. (My high school art teacher was very proud!) It still hangs in my home today.
