Whimsy…an unusual, or fanciful idea.

I had just opened a brand new box of paints. 48 colors to play with, and that is exactly what I wanted to do ~ Play! I wanted to paint without worrying about perfection or realism. I veered away from my “normal” and ended up painting, on a whim, four fabulously fancy little dresses.

Most little girls love to dress up in frills and lace for special occasions and I was no exception. I was lucky enough to have both my mother and grandmother sew for me, and always wore home-stitched frocks for most of my childhood and teenage events. This painting is my tribute to all the memories that are embedded in each handmade dress, most of which are still hanging in my closet. They were worn by myself, my sisters, and my daughter. Maybe someday they will be passed along to the next generation.
